The Movement in Action: the 2018 Southern Nevada Youth Homelessness Summit

The 2017 Southern Nevada Youth Homelessness Summit launched the Movement to End Youth Homelessness in Southern Nevada, a community-wide effort to attack youth homelessness from all angles, which kicked off with a year-long planning process to create the first-ever Southern Nevada Plan to End Youth Homelessness. Built through facilitation by national experts and input from a wide range of community partners, the Plan represents the first coordinated, directed, community-wide response to youth homelessness in the Las Vegas Valley. The completed plan was unveiled at the 2018 Summit, along with analysis by local experts, stories shared and engaging activities led by current and formerly homeless youth, interactive updates on The Movement, and an inspiring keynote by a national leader in the fight against youth homelessness. The afternoon provided opportunities for attendees to help bring the Plan to life through action-oriented break-out sessions on Legislative Policy, Fundraising, Systems Collaboration, Innovative Housing/Service Models, and Private/Public Sector Partnerships.

The 2018 Summit was held on November 2, 2018 at The Venetian Resort® Las Vegas and presented by the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth and Sands Cares with support from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Greenspun College of Urban Affairs and the Las Vegas Review-Journal; attendees of the 2018 Summit included business leaders, policymakers, federal partners, local and state government representatives, philanthropists, educators, social services providers, concerned citizens, and more.
