AB 363
In 2019, the Movement to End Youth Homelessness in Southern Nevada successfully advocated to break down barriers to empower young people experiencing homelessness to obtain vital identification documents. Unanimously passed by the Nevada State Legislature, AB 363 provides a one-time fee waiver for original or duplicate state ID cards, driver’s licenses, and driver’s license exam fees for homeless youth under age 25. It also provides birth certificates to homeless youth, their school district liaisons and their social workers, at no cost, and allows unaccompanied youth to obtain statements of birth at no cost for the purpose of admission to school or securing employment. Facilitating access to these vital documents is an extremely low-cost way to provide key support to homeless youth who are striving to work, study, and find independence and stability.
