NPHY Housing Expansion Campaign

Give Homeless Youth

A Place to Sleep.

It’s More Than Just a Bed.

;

How would not having a place to sleep impact your life?

Could you stay safe and healthy?

Could you earn income and take care of yourself and others?

Now imagine when you were young.

What would each night be like without a place to sleep?

Could you stay in school or even study?

Would you feel safe on your own?

Could you grow and thrive?

For a homeless young person,

a bed is not just a place to sleep.

It’s their foundation for a brighter future.

The Problem

On a given night, Southern Nevada only had enough youth-dedicated housing and shelter beds to serve less than 22% of the young people enduring homelessness.

That’s why Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth turned to long-time corporate partner Las Vegas Sands to help craft a solution – and Las Vegas Sands recruited the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, a newcomer to the Las Vegas community, to be part of a mission-critical goal to address the lack of housing beds for youth experiencing homelessness in Southern Nevada.

The Vision

NPHY envisioned a new multi-family residence to provide not only 15 beds for youth, but also a place to wrap vulnerable youth in a myriad of services to put them on a pathway to self-sufficiency and success.

That’s because NPHY knows a place to sleep is more than just a bed. It’s a foundation for a brighter future.

The Goal

Establish a capital campaign to raise $500,000 for the housing property and additional support for wraparound services.

  • Campaign Target: $500,000
  • Campaign Startup Investment: $100,000 from Las Vegas Sands
  • Matching Grant for Community Donations: $100,000 from the JBJ Soul Foundation

The Impact

Working together, our partnership rallied the Southern Nevada community to achieve the campaign’s goal. In addition to critical contributions by Las Vegas Sands and the JBJ Soul Foundation, NPHY rallied additional community partners, including corporations and individuals, to contribute to bringing lasting impact to youth experiencing homelessness. When real estate costs skyrocketed during the campaign, Las Vegas Sands stepped in with an additional $100,000 to ensure NPHY could purchase the multifamily property needed to meet our young people’s needs.

  • Campaign Raised: $675,000

  • Campaign Added:  15 Housing Beds

  • Housing Increase: 150% increase in NPHY housing stock

  • Bed Nights Impacted: 5,475 additional nights each year safe and off the streets for young people in the new facility

  • Additional Campaign Impact:  With programmatic support from Clark County, NPHY launched the new NPHY Transitional Housing/Rapid Re-Housing program, an innovative approach providing 30 transitional housing and rapid re-housing beds to young people in need, along with case management; employment and education assistance; immediate needs services such as food, clothing, hygiene supplies, and transportation; moving assistance; life skills classes; and peer mentorship and support.

Give Homeless Youth A Place to Sleep

Having a place to sleep is something most of us take for granted each night. Young people who have experienced homelessness can tell you exactly what having a place to sleep means to them:

It’s More Than Just A Bed

At NPHY, a bed in our transitional housing program means so much more than just a place to sleep: it means the safety, stability, and support needed to accomplish their dreams. Over the course of an average year, every bed at NPHY provides youth with:

nutritious meals

nights safe and off the streets

engagement activities, such as art, music, exercise, and cooking classes, gardening lessons, holiday parties, BBQ’s, and movie and game nights

one-on-one case management meetings with a licensed social worker

opportunities to receive on-site primary medical care

one-on-one counseling sessions with a licensed therapist

group life skills classes on education, financial literacy, job preparedness, and health and wellness topics

opportunities to provide input into program design at monthly Youth Council meetings

thirty-day bus passes

group hikes

NPHY family vacation, including camping, theme parks, zoos, and/or museums

It’s The Foundation For A Brighter Future
